SPRINGSTEEN WANTS NAME OFF ASCAP LAWSUIT

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) is suing a Manhattan bar for violating Bruce Springsteen’s copyrights by letting an unidentified band perform two of his songs.  The Boss is listed as a plaintiff in the lawsuit, which demands licensing fees from the bar, but Bruce wants no part of it.  According to Billboard, Springsteen was never asked about the suit and wouldn’t have agreed to be a plaintiff if he had been, so he wants his name removed from the case.  ASCAP hasn’t commented on the issue yet.

TOWNSHEND ADDRESSES CHILDREN’S PROTECTION GROUPS

Before The Who played at the Super Bowl, groups like Protect Our Children were protesting the performance since guitarist Pete Townshend had been arrested for child pornography in 2003, even though he was later cleared.  According to the Associated Press, Townshend addressed the issue, telling the crowd at an acoustic gig the group performed on Thursday that he understands the groups’ vigilance but disagrees with their vigilantism.  Pete, who was himself abused as a child, said that he is on the same side as the groups and wants to protect kids.

DRESS IN BLACK FOR JOHNNY CASH ON THE 26TH

You might see a lot of folks wearing black on the 26th.  That’s because fans of Johnny Cash are being encouraged to wear the color that day, what would have been Cash’s 78th birthday.  Fans can post pictures of themselves in black to a special Facebook group and enter to win Johnny’s five-CD box set Unearthed.  Also on the 26th, the Man in Black’s final studio album, American VI: Ain’t No Grave, will be released.
